Dr. Philip Gachassin was born and raised in South Louisiana. He graduated from Tulane University in 1992, and Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1997. He completed internship and surgical residency in 2002 at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Al. Dr. Gachassin graduated from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health obtaining a Masters in Health Care Management. He is a board-certified surgeon, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He is a member of the Louisiana State Chapter of ASMBS, ACS, Lafayette Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, American Foregut Society, and the founder and executive director of the Louisiana Bariatric Surgery Association. Dr. Gachassin specializes in complex laparoscopic (minimally invasive) procedures and has pioneered several laparoscopic surgical techniques in Acadiana. His expertise includes minimally invasive foregut procedures (heartburn treatments), metabolic and bariatric procedures, gallbladder, and hernia procedures. Dr. Gachassin serves as the Regional Chair of Surgery for the Ochsner Health System in the Lafayette Region. Dr. Gachassin founded and directs the metabolic and bariatric program at Ochsner Lafayette General, and the Surgical Hospitalist and Trauma Surgery programs at Ochsner Lafayette General. Dr. Gachassin is the Co-Chair of the Access to Care Committee of the ASMBS. He is a director of the State Chapter of the ASMBS. He is a director of LAMMICO. Dr. Gachassin is a past director of Lafayette General Health, and immediate past president of Lafayette Surgical, LLC.Dr. Gachassin received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed his residency at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, Alabama.
